Melvin C. Mains, 66, of 1617 Meridian St., died Sunday evening in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been a patient there for a week. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown. – jlr

Melvin C. Mains, 66, of 1617 Meridian St., died Sunday night in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. Mr. Mains had retired in 1974 from Warner Gear Co. at Muncie and had formerly been employed at Delco-Remy Co. at Anderson. He had lived at Yorktown until 1977, when he moved to Crawfordsville. He was a member of the Sympathy Club at Warner Gear. He was born March 17, 1912, at Winchester, a son of John and Reba Rector Mains. He served in the Navy during World War II, and in 1946 he was married to the former Betty Platt, who survives. Other survivors are two brothers, George Mains and Ronald Mains, both of Anderson; a sister, Mrs. Alice Lanning of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services were conducted today in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Hugh Dooley officiating. Graveside services and burial were in Memorial Park Cemetery at Anderson. – jlr
